David has established himself as a senior government relations and public affairs leader, with a strong track record of supporting corporate strategy, investment decision-making, and long-term value creation in complex and highly regulated environments across domestic and international power and clean energy markets. As Practice Group Lead, Energy at Sussex, David brings more than 25 years of experience shaping and executing strategies that align public policy objectives with corporate priorities, enabling organizations to advance major investments, manage risk, and operate with confidence in evolving policy environments.
David has advised executive leaders, project teams and investors on navigating geopolitical risk, legislative change, and regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions and has held increasingly senior roles, leading high performing teams responsible for government relations, public affairs, and stakeholder engagement.
David’s expertise spans the full energy spectrum, including renewables, both onshore and offshore, traditional power generation, and clean infrastructure development. He is widely recognized for his ability to build strong relationships with decision-makers, regulators, and key influencers, and his skill in translating political and policy developments into clear, commercially relevant insights that support informed decision-making and sustainable growth.
Prior to joining Sussex, David served as Global Head of Public Affairs at Northland Power Inc., where he led a global team across the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. In this role, he supported major infrastructure and clean-energy projects worldwide, shaping engagement strategies with governments, regulators, and agencies to advance Northland’s interests in diverse and evolving markets.
He has served on the boards of the World Forum Offshore Wind, Marine Renewables Canada, the Association of Power Producers of Ontario, and Offshore Wind California and is a former Board Chair of the Canadian Wind Energy Association. These roles reflect his long-standing commitment to advancing the energy sector and supporting the transition to a sustainable, secure, more resilient power system.
