ABOUT
Samna is a Research Associate on the Energy team, where she supports clients on complex energy policy and regulatory files. Her work focuses on in-depth policy analysis, regulatory research, and preparing clear, concise briefing materials that translate technical energy issues into practical, evidence-based recommendations for decision-makers and industry partners.
Before joining Sussex, Samna worked with the Ontario Forest Industries Association, where she supported advocacy efforts on behalf of Ontario’s forest sector and contributed to policy analysis related to forestry, sustainability, and resource management. She also gained international experience at UNESCO, supporting the integration of nature-based solutions into disaster risk management initiatives, and previously interned with the Asian Development Bank, contributing to research and analysis in support of international development programming.
Across these roles, Samna developed a strong foundation in policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and strategic research. She brings a thoughtful, detail-oriented approach to her work, with a particular strength in synthesizing complex environmental and energy issues into clear insights that support effective advocacy and informed decision-making.

Her graduate research focused on diversifying Ontario’s biomass markets. She is also the founder of a nonprofit organization supporting women’s education in remote communities in Nepal.
Outside of work, Samna enjoys exploring new cafés and restaurants, going for long walks, and running outdoors.
