Federal Government Announces Additional Investment in Indigenous Businesses and Releases List of Gas Tax Allocations

Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced $133 million in new funding for Indigenous businesses and the Indigenous tourism industry.

The federal government estimates that many of Canada’s 30,000 Indigenous businesses are in sectors hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The investment includes:

  • $117 million for community-owned First Nation, Inuit and Métis businesses including microbusinesses, who are not eligible for existing COVID-19 business support measures.
  • $16 million to support the Indigenous tourism industry. The Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada will administer the fund to businesses that have lost revenue due to COVID-19.

Gas Tax Allocations‍

Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Catherine McKenna unveiled new details related to the government’s June 1 decision to fast-track $2.2 billion in Gas Tax funding to municipalities. The Minister has provided a breakdown of funding allocations by municipality.
