Online Licensing and Permit Applications Launches in Toronto

Online Licensing and Permit Applications Launches in Toronto

This afternoon, the City of Toronto announced the launch of a new online business licensing and permits application process that allows for applications, document submissions, and payments to be completed virtually. Intended to reduce face-to-face interactions as part of the City’s efforts to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission, 144 permit  and license applications can now be processed entirely remotely through the web portal here. This is a significant step forward by the City and will come as welcome news for many businesses that have been waiting several months for the opportunity to complete essential paperwork and receive critical approvals.

Business licensing and renewals were suspended at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the City of Toronto has not cancelled any licenses or charged any late fees since March 17, 2020. With the resumption of these services, Municipal Licensing & Standards will again be undertaking enforcement activity and will initially be focussing on education and encouraging businesses to complete applications online for new licenses and renewals. Late fees will begin to be assessed again as of August 4, 2020 and licenses will be cancelled for non-payment after 90 days. Existing licensees can continue to renew their licences by mail or by email to mlsbusinesslicence@toronto.ca and complete payment online.

If you or your business require any assistance with the new permit and licensing applications process, please feel free to contact the Municipal Team. Sussex continues to make vital connections for companies navigating government through the COVID-19 pandemic.
