Prime Minister Trudeau & Minister O’Regan Announce Launch of Greener Homes Program

Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau along with Minister of Natural Resources Seamus O’Regan announced the launch of the Canada Greener Homes Grant program, which provides grants of up to $5,000 for green home retrofits and free EnerGuide energy assessments to homeowners. The program, first outlined in the 2020 Fall Economic Statement, commits to spending $2.6 billion over 7 years.

Greener Homes Program:

Homeowners must first complete home retrofits and then seek reimbursement. Qualified improvement projects will be eligible for:

  1. Up to $5,000 total for the implementation of eligible retrofits done after December 1, 2020.
  2. Up to an additional $600 for the cost of their pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluations. Homeowners will not be reimbursed for the pre-retrofit evaluation unless they continue through the full Greener Homes Grant process.

Note: EnerGuide evaluations completed prior to December 1, 2020, are not eligible for reimbursement.

The program is expected to generate significant economic activity in the residential retrofit sector while moving Canada to a cleaner, more efficient energy system.

Happy to help.
