Sussex Overview: IESO Releases Pathways to Decarbonization Report

Earlier this afternoon the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) released three long-anticipated reports – as requested in November 2021, the Pathways to Decarbonization report addresses how Ontario’s electricity system might reduce carbon emissions while working to maintain reliability and affordability for customers. The IESO also released a mid-term review of the 2021-2024 Conservation Demand Management (CDM) Framework, as well as an updated Annual Planning Outlook (APO).  

These reports, when combined, will be used as foundational datapoints for the Electrification and Energy Transition Panel (EETP) as it deliberates on legislative, regulatory, policy, and planning recommendations, as well as potential governance advice to government to address overarching public imperatives in the years to come. This work will involve consultations with interested and affected stakeholders over the coming months. The information and findings will also be used to support continued resource adequacy considerations and procurement decision-making by the IESO and the Ministry of Energy.
