Tips for Businesses on CurbTO and Curbside Pickup Changes

Over the last week, the City of Toronto completed 21 installations as part of the new CurbTO program in order to reduce crowding on sidewalks and facilitate expedited pick-ups in support of essential businesses and pedestrians. Now, as the Government of Ontario has authorized all retail stores with street entrances to provide curbside pickup starting Monday May 11, the CurbTO program is preparing to expand its supports to more businesses. Businesses of all kinds will be able to request a Curb Lane Pedestrian Zone or a Temporary Parking Pick-Up Zone should they encounter crowding through the new webpage available here or by emailing curbTO@toronto.ca.

Because it may not be possible for all new CurbTO facilities to be set-up immediately, businesses are being encouraged to use strategies such as scheduled pick-up appointments and pre-payment to help mitigate crowding in the short-term. As highlighted previously, businesses in BIA areas that require CurbTO facilities are strongly encouraged to coordinate through their BIA office to ensure that there is minimal conflict with neighbours and to facilitate shared facilities where appropriate. Presently, the City has set a target of investigating requests within one week, subject to demand, and will roll-out installations shortly thereafter.
