Implementation Agreement signed on Canada - Alberta MOU

Canada and Alberta reach agreement on path forward on industrial carbon pricing, a pipeline, and electricity
Today, Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith signed an implementation agreement covering most of the remaining components of the Canada-Alberta Memorandum of Understanding, marking the near completion of a framework first agreed to in November 2025. Today’s agreement included updates to the industrial carbon pricing framework, a clear intended pathway to developing a new pipeline, and electricity sector commitments to ensure that the grid can keep pace with growing demand.
The agreement provides important new signals for industry on the future direction of energy, infrastructure, and climate policy in Canada. It also reflects a broader effort by both governments to balance economic growth, investment certainty, emissions reduction, and national competitiveness amid growing energy demand and ongoing pressure to accelerate major projects.
