Ontario PC Party releases full platform ahead of Thursday's Election Day

Ontario PC Party releases full platform ahead of Thursday's Election Day

With just three days until election day, the Ontario PC Party has released its platform entitled: Our Plan to Protect Ontario, outlining $40 billion in new policy commitments, focusing on five key themes:

  1. Building Ontario’s economy
  1. Protecting workers
  1. Keeping Ontario competitive
  1. Cleaning up our streets
  1. Delivering better care and services

Today’s platform release demonstrates the Ontario PC Party is not steering away from long-standing commitments while also significantly focusing on new measures to support Ontario businesses and workers against President Trump’s threats.

Among the $40 billion promised, most of the new spending is related to Ontario's response to possible U.S. tariffs and will depend on the magnitude and details of the import levies.  It also includes some previously unannounced measures, such as a $5 billion Protect Ontario Account to help respond to American tariffs, $705 million to expand STEM and skilled trades training capacity at post-secondary institutions, and $50 million to support modular housing technology.

While surprising to some that the PCs would release their platform just three days before election day, this plan does push back on the criticism raised by Bonnie Crombie and Marit Stiles relating to healthcare with a focus in the document on primary care, workforce expansion, and capital projects.

Absent from the PC platform was a mention of its goal to build 1.5 million new homes in Ontario by 2031. However, Ford has said throughout the campaign that a re-elected PC government would "absolutely" retain the goal and pointed to a need for lower interest rates and streamlined municipal permitting processes to boost housing construction.

Overall, the platform reiterates the message that Ford has delivered throughout the last three and half weeks, which is, if re-elected his government will protect Ontario's economy and its people from President Trump’s threats and keep the province competitive.

As the election campaign enters the final few days, today was a clear indication that Ford and the PC Party, if re-elected, are seemingly ready to get back to work quickly, with a plan to address the looming threats from across the border.

Get the full breakdown of the PC Party's platform, covering key policies on energy, the economy, jobs, and more.

Canada’s Nuclear Renaissance, Continued

Canada unveiled its first-ever sectorwide Nuclear Energy Strategy, setting concrete build-out targets: up to 10 new domestic reactors by 2040, four new export markets by 2040, across a four-pillar plan covering domestic builds, exports, fuel/waste management, and fission/fusion innovation. The strategy stays technology-agnostic between CANDU, AP1000, and Gen IV designs, leans on existing financing tools rather than new funding (with a dedicated financing policy due next April), and frames nuclear as central to doubling Canada's grid capacity and capturing global export demand as countries move away from Russian supply chains.

Not all nuclear is created equal

Traditional large-scale nuclear plants have long demonstrated that it is possible to produce dependable electricity at scale without direct greenhouse gas emissions. They provide steady, around-the-clock power that supports modern economies while helping jurisdictions meet climate goals.
